I'm in no way a 49er fan but I can't help to root for this guy. He has been through it. every year it is somthing else. Never gave up and has been a leader of the team when it looked like they didn't want him. showed sings when Turner was on staff to focus on the QB position and is playing good now with new coach who cares about QB position.

Right now, Alex Smith is one of the five best QBs in the NFL. I cant say I pictured this or even thought he would play half this well but he has played lights out, and his team is now 5-1 with a 20 point comeback win over Philly and a road win over the previously undefeated Lions.

That's a big stretch, his ratings are up there so far(he has much lower attempts/completions), but he's lucky to be top 15.

His team is 5-1, and he has only turned the ball over 5 times and has a rating of 104. Please show me these 15 QBs that are playing better than him right now. Two comebacks ON THE ROAD against the Dream Team and the undefeated Lions

Ratings is the only thing he is top 5 in and with one pick, but his attempts are also a lot lower too.

Look at that stat list and there's no way he's top 5, what would lead anyone to believe he was looking at column after column?

Once again, show me these 15 quarterbacks playing better than Alex Smith right now....

Aaron Rodgers? Absolutely, he is >>Smith no question.
Brady? Same
Brees? Sure, but his team hasnt played as well as Smith's.

There are a couple more I could put ahead of Smith, but I am very interested to see who you list as playing better than Smith so far this season.

And are we going to punish a QB because he doesnt throw it 40 times a game now?

What did everyone think of the coaches going at it after the game? From what I saw Harbaugh did go a little overboard and should have been a little more calm at the handshake but Schwartz went overboard as well. Should have just ran up, said his peace, and walked away instead of letting it get out of control. And did anybody see Vandy's James Franlkin and UGA DC going at it, I missed it and can't find a video. For some reason, Franklin really gets on my nerves.

yeah I saw them both and biased in both situations haha, but I thought Schwartz escalated the event and made it into a big deal by chasing after Harbaugh. He spoke about protocol, yet its definitely not protocol to chase after somebody. Harbaugh was def intense with the handshake, but Schwartz had made a gesture towards the SF sidelines earlier in the game. Detroit is also not the classiest bunch in the NFL on the field, but SF is not one to shy away from physicality.

And Franklin said something to Shawn Williams, UGA defender who had two personal fouls during the game and at least two more very borderline plays that were not called, and Grantham got pissed. Franklin probably should not have said something to a player but Grantham again escalated the event by getting all in Franklins face. This one I believe its more even, Franklin was out of line but Grantham went nuts.
